SAGINAW, Mich. — September 23, 2025 — Dr. Pamela Pugh today formally filed candidate paperwork with the Michigan Department of State’s Bureau of Elections in Lansing to appear on the ballot for the 35th State Senate District special election. The special primary is set for February 3, 2026, and the special general election for May 5, 2026.
“Some might see filing as a formality, but it means everything to me,” said Dr. Pamela Pugh, President of the Michigan State Board of Education and a public health professional. “Voters in Michigan’s 35th District will see my name—and they’ll have the chance to elect a fighter for working families and strong communities to the State Senate. I’m grateful, hopeful, and ready for the work ahead.”
Dr. Pugh emphasized that the everyday challenges facing children are the challenges of the entire community. “Families need the basics—food on the table, affordable housing, and strong public schools. We must protect clean drinking water and modernize transportation and infrastructure so people can thrive. There’s serious work to do in Lansing, and I’m ready to get it done.”
With filing complete, the campaign will expand outreach across Saginaw, Midland, and Bay, listening to residents, elevating local solutions, and building a coalition to win in February and May.
The campaign also recently announced endorsements from more than 50 elected officials, faith leaders, educators, and community advocates across the district—including 10 state-elected education leaders as well as the endorsement of 314 Action and Fems for Dems.
