Defending Our Rights and Freedoms

With the Trump administration's callousness on full display, and a federal Republican trifecta rubber-stamping his dangerous agenda, attacks on our communities will only continue to worsen. Trump and his MAGA movement have unleashed masked ICE agents into our neighborhoods to terrorize and profile citizens and undocumented people alike. They have stripped away a woman's right to reproductive healthcare and put targets on the backs of our LGBTQ+ children. In the State Senate, I will do everything in my power to protect Michiganders regardless of their immigration status, sexual orientation, or gender identity. ​

Protecting  & Expanding Access to Safe Abortion

I believe that abortions should be safe, legal, and financially attainable. Access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare is essential for the overall well-being of people and their families. I will fund programs that provide affordable contraception, preventive care, and family planning services, including supporting funding for resources like Planned Parenthood. This includes supporting and expanding funding for organizations that provide essential reproductive healthcare, particularly for underserved communities.

 

Standing up to ICE​

As President of the State Board of Education I have proudly defended our immigrant children, because every student in Michigan deserves to have a safe learning enviroment and a quality education. In the State Senate, I will do everything in my power to protect our communities from Trump's masked militia. That is why I support SB508-10 which would protect places like schools and churches from ICE activity, ban the masking of ICE agents and would prohibit ICE from asking for a person's personal information without a court order.

Defending Our Kids

At the State Board of Ed table, I have stood up for our children, regarless of their race, religon, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic status or zip code. No child deserves to feel unsafe in school or at home and it is our duty to ensure that Michigan's kids are protected from gun violence, ICE agents or political hatred. I have been on the front lines standing up for our trans and immigrant students here in Michigan, and I will continue that fight as your next State Senator.
