Investing in Public Education and Infrastructure

At the heart of my vision for a prosperous and equitable future lies a commitment to investing in the public good. In the State Senate, I will be an advocate for public education policy that prioritizes the well-being and success of every student, fosters an environment of learning and growth, and eradicates the systemic barriers hindering their progress. Living in a region with an aging and declining population, we must address the immediate effects on our infrastructure as well as work towards long term solutions to our regional loss in population. I firmly belive that public infrastructure needs more state-level investment and should never be privatized.

Investing in Schools

As President of the State Board of Education, I've seen firsthand how the 40-year Republican disinvestment in Michigan's public schools has impacted our students and educators. As State Senator, I will make it a priority to deliver adequate and equitable funding for our schools, ensuring that they have the necessary resources to provide a high-quality education for all students to learn in healthy, safe, and supportive learning environments.

Creating a Pathway to an  Affordable College Degree

Not every student will choose to go to college. But for those that do, it should be accessible, regardless of economic background. I will work to  reduce the burden of college costs by increasing financial aid, expanding scholarship opportunities, and fighting to make Michigan's community colleges tuition free. By making college more affordable, we will open doors of opportunity and empower students to pursue their passions without the weight of crushing debt.

Investing in Local Infrastructure
In the State Senate, I will fight for more state funding to support our aging infrastruture. From transportation to public schools and public safety infrastructure, our region needs more investment from the state. I have experience working in both grant writing and working with the legislature, so I know how to securing funding for our local infrastructure.

Defending Public Infrastructure From Privatization
Here in the Mid-Michigan, we know all to well what happens when private firms take control of our public infrastructure. Whether it's dams or bridges, the taxpayer never benefits from corporate takeover of public goods. In the State Senate, I will work to fully invest in our local infrastructure and fight for ways to put public goods back where they belong, in the hands of the people.
